1.             Jesus as a Free Speech Victim

Beth, sometime later, handed me a pamphlet that was titled “Jesus As a Free-Speech Victim.” This pamphlet contained a now-75-year-old article, of the same name, by Clifford J. Durr, RIP (a former Commissioner of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission). The pamphlet’s introduction, by Corliss Lamont, stated the following: “Jesus . . . a dauntless hero in the great cause of free speech, ever in jeopardy over the ages. . . . Jesus carried on the . . . tradition established by the foremost civil-liberties martyr of philosophy, Socrates in ancient Greece.”
